The Board of Directors of the Boys & Girls Club of Eden-Lake Shore are happy to announce that Jason Mazurkiewicz of East Aurora has accepted the position of Executive Director with the club that serves two south-towns communities. He started serving this critical community organization on October 4.
Mazurkiewicz grew up as a “Club Kid” in the East Aurora Boys & Girls Club and was mentored by Gary Schutrum, who has served as their executive director for more than 30 years. Mr. Schutrum served as a consultant and interim executive director to the Eden-Lake Shore Club while the new executive search was conducted.
Jason Mazurkiewicz graduated from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington with a four-year degree in business administration and a concentration in marketing. He also holds an Associates Degree in Business Administration from Cape Fear Community College.
He most recently served for eight years as the manager of a successful corporate convenience store in South Wales, New York. There he coached, trained, developed and managed more than a dozen employees while implementing and leading company strategies and policies. His responsibilities included marketing, sales; budget, payroll and cost control; and business development – all qualifications that will serve him well in his new position as executive director of this growing club. He also brings ten years of experience in leadership positions in the corporate food service industry.
“Jason’s organizational leadership experience and his ability to motivate and develop others for high performance, both staff and kids, are key assets we sought in our executive search,” said Lynn Englund, president of the club’s board of directors. “The fact that he was a long-time member of the East Aurora Clubhouse elevates his passion and capabilities to a whole new level. We couldn’t ask for a more perfect match for leading our organization.”
Englund went on to add that while everyone is excited to introduce our new executive director, the board is equally thankful for the services and dedication of Gary Schutrum who lead the club through an important time of transition. “Gary’s dedication to serving the youth of Western New York is unmatched. His recommendation of Jason carried significant weight in our hiring decision and the fact that he mentored a Club Kid to grow into a man who then took on the challenge of leading clubhouses in two communities himself, is a testament to Gary’s commitment and leadership.”
The Boys and Girls Club of Eden officially opened its doors in the fall of 2002 after a complete refurbishing was done of the building formerly known as “The Meeting Place” Restaurant across from the middle school in the Town of Eden.
Starting in 2008, local community leaders in the Town of Evans collaborated with the Boys and Girls Club of America in an effort to establish a club near the Lake Shore Senior High School. With the help of the board of the Boys and Girls Club of Eden that took it under its wing and lent its insight and experience, the Boys & Girls Club of Lake Shore Clubhouse opened as a unit of the Eden Club in 2011. It’s located within the former W. T. Hoag Elementary School, now the W.T. Hoag Educational Center in the Village of Angola. The two clubhouse serve more than 600 kids from a large area that includes the Towns of Eden, Evans and Brant.
The two clubhouses now serve under one organization, the recently re-branded Boys & Girls Club of Eden-Lake Shore which proudly promotes their position as: “Two Communities –One GREAT Mission!”
The clubhouses offer after-school programs that promote sports and recreation, education, the arts, health and wellness, career development, and character and leadership.
